Please spare me the ‘long lines at voting places are inspiring’ hot takes. They’re a sign of a failing democracy where elected officials are afraid of their voters and make voting as difficult as possible for ‘the others.’ Rich neighborhoods don’t do lines...

Those who are loudest to ‘honor America’ but can’t be bothered to serve their country in any fashion are also the loudest to say how great it is that people stand for hours in line to vote while making sure it’s only the ‘right’ people who have to stand hours in line to vote

What kind of nation brags about democracy but intentionally wrecks elections? The kind of nation that applauds a GoFundMe for kids with cancer and no insurance. The kind of nation that says 210,000 deaths in 6 months is the price for the freedom to hate your neighbors. Clap clap

I’ve few pics of me while I was in CIA. One is me standing in downtown Kandahar during the 2004 elections. It was relatively safe then. Long lines but not too long. And now home I see DELIBERATE hours-long lines while we keep bragging about how great a democracy we are. Clap clap

We keep electing & re-electing the same people who show you that they hate you with every thing they do but it’s ok cuz they tell you they hate ‘the others’ even more.
We don’t have to be this way.
So don’t be.
We all matter or none of us do. And I mean all of us or none of us

I GET early voting. I also GET a few months ago when my state put on a cruel joke of an election where, again, only certain neighbors stood in long lines. I also GET that my state purged thousands of people wrongly from voter lists. So, no, they don’t GET the benefit of my doubt
