Hi everyone, here is a small thread on networking. I get asked how I know people/get considered jobs/tests/ect a lot over the past year. I'm not the best at this in anyway but like...I do get asked this a lot lol. This is purely for animation.
1. What I do with networking isn't to find potential work it's to meet new people in a similar field as me. Animation is a small industry and I want people to now I'm friendly and enjoyable if we do ever work in the future. Which you never know who will be your future co-worker.
2. A common mistake people do when networking/trying to meet new people is only focus on their art/career success. No one want's to be friends with people who act like that. No one likes to be used. People want to get to know people with similar interests, not just work.
3. When you meet these people get to know them as a genuine person.. not just for their art work. Like.. again... people have lives outside of their art. They have interests and hobbies. please treat people like normal people.
4. not everyone will like you! making connections is a two way street, sometimes the other person doesn't mesh/doesn't want to mesh with you. THAT'S FINE!! Don't constantly @ or stand in front of them talking. They have other things to do!
I know this is really repetitive but if you have a friendly disposition and just treat people as human beings you will get to know people. If you draw well enough you now friends will recommend you for positions. Just don't use people for gain. Thank you V_V
Also how I end up meeting people who are also in storyboarding: I am lucky enough to be from southern CA and pre-pandemic I would commute 1.5 hours to burbank/pasadena and go to classes and workshops or animation events. I did this since 2017. I live in Burbank now.
TLDR: just be nice to people man lol
SORRY IF THIS IS OBVIOUS I GET THIS QUESTION WEEKLY
