Allow me to offer up a thread on why this is not voter suppression as Tom, Claire McCaskill and others have alleged. I lived in Georgia for five years, and it is one of the easiest states to both register and vote. Let's start with registering. First, voters can register 1/ https://twitter.com/RadioFreeTom/status/1315709497743224832
online and the process is easy. For older voters and those who can't register online, people can pick them up at the registrar office, the library, the post office, public schools, and more. People can register when they apply or renew a driver's license. Postage is paid. 2/
As for voting, people have a number of options. Naturally, they can vote on election day at the precinct show on their precinct card. Early voting started today, as we saw from the video. It lasts for 18 days. Unlike when one votes on election day, people voting early can 3/
go to *any* polling location in their county. The video showed one polling location in Gwinnett County. They have a total of nine. Many people don't know this despite the fact is clearly stated on the http://georgia.gov  website. 4/
Counties have a lot of autonomy in how they handle voting, so they can extend early voting hours and days if they want to. Another option for Georgia voters is voting via absentee. Now, unlike some states that require voters to meet certain conditions for voting absentee, 5/
Georgia does not. Anyone can request an absentee ballot up to *six months* before election day. After they fill out the ballot, they can return it four different ways:

* By mail
* By fax (yes, by fax)
* By email (as an attachment)
* They can drop it off at a registrar office 6/
The number of people who voted in the 2018 midterms was higher than that of those who voted in the 2008 presidential election. If Georgia is engaging in voter suppression, they are doing the worst job in modern political history. /fin
