With @thorchain_org's RuneVault retiring, a lot of people are asking, "What should I do with my $RUNE now?"

So I'm putting this thread together as an educational piece for you.

Let's get started

1/
First of all, RuneVault was great. It paid you roughly 25-50% APY over its lifetime for being a hodler.

It was a good way to build a community of invested participants, but it was never a long-term solution.

That's why its come to its natural conclusion

2/
So you were making 25-50% APY and now you're not. Sucks right?

Not so fast.

You have two options in Chaosnet/Thorchain

1. Operate a node
2. Become a liquidity provider

Let's talk through both

3/
Operating a node is likely not for you.

You currently need ~ 500,000 $RUNE to bond, to operate a node

You also need significant tech experience IE work with AWS, Devops, pagerduty,

If you're not rich/early and technically proficient, liquidity provision is better for you

4/
Becoming a liquidity provider (LP) is how MOST people will earn yield off their $RUNE.

Familiar with UniSwap? it's a similar process.

You stake 50% of RUNE and 50% of another token, and you're now a LP.

LP's earn trading fees and a % of $RUNE block rewards (the APY yield)

5/
When you become an LP, you need to pick a specific "pool".

IE the BNB, BTCB, BUSD, AVA, Swingby pool etc.

You stake $100 worth of RUNE and $100 worth of the opposing token in the pool (BNB for example).

But if you are 100% invested in RUNE, this presents a problem.

6/
IMO the best option is to keep all your RUNE and buy an equal amount of another token, preferably something you want to hold long term, like BNB, BTCB or even BUSD (binance's stablecoin).

However, you might not be able to afford buying more crypto, hence the problem

7/
If you want be an LP and can't afford more crypto, you likely need to sell some portion (up to 50%) of your $RUNE to buy the opposing asset.

You can do this manually or via asymmetric staking.

Alternatively, you can just hold your RUNE and not capture any yield.

8/
To provide liquidity on Thorchain, it's relatively easy. You can currently do it on Chaosnet/BEPswap simply by clicking any asset and selecting "Add"

https://chaosnet.bepswap.com/

9/
Once you become an LP, it's always good (AND FUN) to track your returns.

Noted Thor Chad @Four4Newt created a cool tracker to calculate your returns. Check it out here.

10/
Ultimately, it's time for Thorchain to grow up and that means retiring RuneVault and actively contributing capital to the Thorchain ecosystem.

For most of you, that will involve become liquidity providers.

It's not as simple as RuneVault, but much more beneficial.

I could spend more time on impermanent loss and other discussions, but I hope you found this informative/helpful.

Any questions, holler at me.
