A couple things to add: I'm aware Barrett is not in fact an evangelical. That said, the handmaiden/oath-taking practices and tenets of People of Praise are so reminiscent of dominionist evangelical thinking, that I consider her an evangelical-adjacent stalking horse.

Finally: the responses to the original tweet sadden and anger but don't surprise me. The self-righteous white supremacy and colonizer mentality behind such adoptions is grotesque but undeniable. And so far, not a single anecdote that proves an exception to the rule.
