Re: Mormons talking about how awful it’d be to run into [insert publicly awful Mormon here] at church.

I hear you, but also that’s kind of the whole deal. Church pews are doing their best work when they hold people we cannot fathom along with people who feel like communion. 1/
This is one of the hardest parts of formal church attendance. Feasting on the sacrament next to someone you couldn’t bear to sit across from at dinner. It’s also one of the most radical aspects of church attendance. My dinner table isn’t for everyone but God’s grace is. 2/
I don’t pretend to have this figured out. When I was assaulted, it was painful to me to have that man sitting in any pew, even outside of my congregation. But someone had to sit next to him, and I was grateful for the people that did. And grateful I didn’t have to. 3/
I never, ever have to have that man to dinner but I’ve had to make peace with the fact he’s expected and wanted and will be well-fed at God’s table. And I am too. X/
