California Voters: NO on #Prop25!!!

Abolishing cash bail this way would replace it with risk assessment tools (which rely on algorithms & data has shown us that algorithms are inherently racist) & judicial discretion (umm racial bias, anyone?!)
Abolition of cash bail + risk assessments + judicial discretion = more Black & Brown people being locked up pre-trial detention. Risk assessment tools are racist and classist. The goal is to DECARCERATE not feed people into the hands of the state. #prop25
I know a lot of people hear “we can abolish cash bail” and automatically want to vote in favor of it but I urge you to read further! Yes we absolutely must abolish cash bail but #Prop25 would do that with great harm!
#Prop25 is on the ballot because #SB10 was signed into law and the bail bond industry doesn’t want to be dismantled so they got it on the ballot. When SB 10 was gut & amended many of us came OFF the bill because we recognized the harm of risk assessments & judicial discretion
We are NOT in support of the bail bond industry. We are clear that we want to END pre-trial detention but doing that by allowing #Prop25 to pass will certainly led more of our people to jail because of the reliance on risk assessments & judges.
There is a better way to abolish cash bail but #Prop25 ain’t it. There’s another piece to all of this that centers around the expansion of probation departments budgets if Prop 25 passes. The national demand is to defund law enforcement not expand their reach via more money!
So please, if you haven’t voted yet, vote NO on #Prop25!

I worked on #SB10 (before we came off the bill) and I actively organize around abolishing cash bail so I am more than happy to talk with anyone who would like more information.
Some additional info ... the Pretrial Justice Institute ( @Pretrial) who initially supported risk assessment tools and #SB10 recently changed their position on risk assessment tools as noted here:
