Mohammad Reza Shah #Pahlavi’s magnificent 2500 Year Anniversary Celebration of the #Persian Empire began on this day, Oct. 12, in 1971 & lasted until Oct. 16

“The intent of the celebration was to demonstrate #Iran's long history & to showcase its contemporary advancements under Mohammad Reza #Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran.”

Planning for these unprecedented festivities took over a decade

The Shah began the ceremonies with a highly emotional speech in front of the tomb of #CyrusTheGreat, the founder of the #Persian Empire, addressing his spirit

Famously, just after the Shah’s final words, a desert wind came up & blew sand over the guests, signaling a good omen
