southeast asia apparently being such a haunted region as a whole that seasians are so used to it will never stop being funny to me like. Why. what goes on
some weeks ago I was like "oh it turns out in indo they smell jasmine when there's Something nearby but in here we smell sampaguita lol, wonder if other countries have diff flowers too" then I went to research and it turns out sampaguita is literally jasmine and I was like. HUH.
FOR CLARIFICATION sampaguita is a KIND of jasmine, but I'm not sure if it's the same flower that heralds the presence of spirits in indonesia o)---( my shock was bc I didn't realize the two were even connected at all, I thought sampaguita was already in english o)---(
k so what I've gathered from this thread is that apparently all over southeast asia

- if u randomly start smelling jasmine/sampaguita or frangipani/kalachuchi there's probs a ghost nearby

- everyone has seen a long haired lady in all white or knows someone who has. EVERYONE.
- also the lady who flies around w/ her organs exposed is EVERYWHERE

- some houses are just. casually haunted. like ppl just coexist w/ the ghost/s in their house bc they're usually just chill

- SO MANY schools and hospitals were built near or on top of cemeteries/mass graves
- kids are taught warding incantations at a young age so they don't accidentally offend any spirits and get cursed/abducted

- there's a local witch doctor in probably every locality bc it's so common to get hexed/possessed. if someone is abnormally sick, it's normal to go there
- you need to ask permission from spirits when you do something in an area where they may lurk. if you're gonna construct or demolish or take something or even just pass through you need to properly let them know first or else
- if you piss off the wrong person, you might find yourself throwing up nails/glass/bugs later

there's a lot more but the fact that these are all such common experiences/beliefs/traditions in multiple southeast asian countries????
ppl just casually mentioning the ghosts that live in their house is especially eye opening for me hdakfnjsjds I thought my house was especially haunted all this time but no, I just live in southeast asia o)---(
