It’s indigenous peoples day I won’t or ever accept “Columbus day”. Here’s a short thread history lesson on what you were probably never taught about shitstopher columbus.
Columbus didn’t land in America not once not never. He “discovered” what is now known as the Bahamas, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. He and the Spaniards met the Arawaks, Tainos and Lucayans—all friendly and welcoming people according to Columbus’ journal writings.
He later returned to Spain and left behind 39 men, upon his return the men were all dead. 1,200 more soldiers at his disposal, rape and pillaging became prominent and acceptable. As if that’s not disgusting enough, the cruelty and sadism worsens by Columbus and crew.
Spaniards were testing the sharpness of blades on Native people by cutting them in half, beheading them in contests and throwing Natives into vats of boiling soap. Infants being lifted from their mother’s breasts and being dashed headfirst into large rocks.
Anyone over 14 had to supply at least a thimble of gold dust every three months those who did not fulfill their obligation had their hands cut off, which were tied around their necks while they bled to death—some 10,000 died handless.
Columbus provided sex slaves to his crew, victims as young as the age of 9 years old. He and his crew used indigenous people for dog food, feeding runaways to their dogs who wore armor, and often fed live babies in front of mortified parents. Fuck this motherfucker and his day.
All of this is sourced in an article by Indian country today that I read a few years ago, I can’t find the exact article but it’s incredibly informative.
