tw // adhd

its adhd awareness month!! im so proud of everyone who found ways to cope with adhd the right way!! and im proud of the ppl who continue trying. a lot of ppl think that adhd is just "not being able to focus" or "being hyper".. its much more than that.
I remember in health class we brought up the topic, adhd, and I spoke out about my experience. A guy blurted out: “so ur proud to have adhd??” hell ya im proud. without adhd i wouldnt have developed such creativity i wouldnt have learned any of what i know about today.
I rly hate how ppl think adhd is funny and make tons of jokes about it. And sometimes ppl fail to filter themselves around those who struggle with it. here r some phrases u should NEVER say:
-“Just try harder”
-“Stop overreacting”
-“Ur so lazy”
-“Everyone gets distracted sometimes”
-“Did u forget to take ur meds today?”
-“Ur not even trying"
-“Adhd is not even that deep”
the list goes on...
To those who actually think that adhd is only being hyper and unable to pay attention lemme correct u, its much more than just that. Here are just some the things that ppl with adhd go through:
-Forgetfulness
-Urges
-Time management issues
-Health problems
-Mood swings
-Impulsivity
-Low self esteem
-Lack of motivation
-Anxiety
-Bad temper
the list goes on...
pls remember that these ppl r at an increased risk of getting other mental disorders such as (most common):
-depression
-anxiety
-bipolar disorder
-OCD
-ODD
-drug abuse
adhd does not go away, its kind of smth that stays with u for ur entire life; theres no way to get rid of it but it doesnt hurt to try finding the positive in it. there r many ways to cope with it.
To be honest, coping with adhd is what helped me find my passion aka design. We have the ability to think divergently, with that being applied, we can also come up with any type of creative ideas.
With that skill, I was able to relieve myself by creating artistic designs. any type of design is a relief to me, like editing pictures or making edits, editing videos, designing my room, my homescreen (i changed it like 483 times), making tons of new paintings for my walls, etc.
as of now, its become more than just a “coping method” its deadass my passion. rly hoping id make it to design school. Obviously this did not help me cope with all of the habits, it helped me realize that im good at something.
Maybe i dont have to always pay attention in school and get “good grades” to be successful in life. One thought i carried with me throughout life is that “im a failure and ill never be good at anything” and tbh this literally changed 5 months ago.
It does still come to my head at times when i act out after taking tests, but it doesnt stick with me anymore and im so proud that im able to say that. A lot of people with adhd think that medication will fix everything but thats not true…
it doesnt work for everyone. All it does is help u focus thats about it. Ive taken medication for the longest time and my grades did not improve, i was able to focus and study hard but i was never able to understand what im actually studying and memorize it all.
So on the test days id break and all the studying i did goes to waste. I figured that none of this is my passion (the courses im studying).
My point is, never underestimate urself and never underestimate people with adhd. Dont forget that ur not alone; i still have really really bad habits that im trying to learn and cope with. My dms are always open btw i can give yall more tips.
one last thing, if ur getting any symptoms and ur not diagnosed with adhd but u feel like u have it, pls try getting checked and if u cant, try reaching out to a friend who is understanding about this topic. u can literally talk to me.
