We young people in Nigeria need to start showing more interest in HOW government actually functions and the processes that keep the wheel of govt running. Our inexperience is failing us at this crucial moment.
I have participated FULLY in these protests and have had several conversations with very intelligent people on this agitation.

I get that emotions are high, people are angry but we need to take a step back and ask ourselves very important questions. Logical questions
For instance with #ENDSARS
1. Who exactly controls SARS?
2. What is the chain of command in SARS?
3.if an IG gives an order, how does it get to EVERY SARS officer in the country? And how fast can every SARS officer get that order?
4. What is the process of disbandment?
5. How long does it take to disband SARS?

Is it realistic for SARS to be disbanded and all their officers kicked into the civilian society unemployed?

Mind you, these guys are experienced with weapon, know how to get weapons, they know how much power holding a weapon gives.
If SARS officers will be redeployed, what is the process of redeploying them? What will they be doing in their new units?

Importantly, how can we monitor the deployments? Do we need representatives who will monitor the process of deployment and update us in layman's terms?
I mean, I know that our protest has no leader or figurehead, but the Government and the police can't negotiate/talk to 70 million youths all at once.

Do we need experienced people who'd sit on panels for us? Or organizations that'd monitor the process? Say @BudgITng? @TrackaNG?
With regards to officers found guilty of brutalizing and killing SARS officers, they can't just be summarily executed.

They have to be outed, investigated, arrested, arraigned, face the courts.A long process. Do we need people who can track these processes for us?Or organizations.
And how can this process be localized? The bureaucracy within govt organizations from the National level is a mess.

Anambra state for instance is making headway with ENDING SARS. Meetings are holding and few individuals from Twitter are REPRESENTING the youth in these meetings
In fact, in Anambra State, a friend told me he was at the state police command and he could see SARS officers going to pull off and drop their informs at the station.

SARS officers have been withdrawn and they're part of the process for monitoring their redeployment. Progress
We need to replicate these processes. You can't negotiate with a system if you don't even know how that system works

I was part of the people shouting that Buhari needs to give an executive order.Only to learn today that SARS wasn't even created by executive or legislative order
The police created it as a purely administrative decision and they're exclusively under the purview of the IGP.

So now that the IGP has dissolved it, can we start talking about how we can ensure the dissolution is implemented at the state level?
And importantly, how do we monitor this dissolution across the country and how do we get justice for all those killed?

How starts filing the charges against those accused of murder? Who holds the police accountable? And how can we hold the accountability bodies accountable too?
I hate long threads but here we are. We can't keep protesting, we can't keep shutting down anyone who wants to talk (I saw the Sanwo-olu videos)

Our anger has reverberated across the Nation. We should get hold of our emotion and get down to the real business of ensuring SARS ends
Importantly, we should get down to the business of ensuring those killed by SARS get some justice. And their families? What can we do for them?

We should be careful not to allow hoodlums hijack our agitations and drag us into total anarchy where all of us end up losing.Mercie 🙏
