Reintroduction of NHS Dentistry in Scotland - sounds fantastic.

so much as a prior heads up to the profession. We found out via Facebook.
We still have PPE shortages. We still have fallow time issues. We still have funding issues.
NONE of these problems have been solved but patients are told from November 1st they can be seen as normal.

That is NOT going to happen. Our backlog is HUGE. Priority must be given to patients who have been having emergency problems. Then patients who had treatment abandoned in March. Then we can think about moving back to routine care but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
Radio silence about all of the aforementioned issues then all of our phones are going mental with patients trying to book in for November when we have no clue what’s happening.
And, as always, dentists will look like the bad guys when we have to explain we can’t see patients

for their overdue exam and scale and polish, “but it says in the paper you can!”
Also, why now? If it was considered too dangerous for dental work to continue, why reopen now when stricter measures are being reintroduced everywhere else and spread of Covid is up?

The skeptical among us may think that has something to do with the fact 6 months from November there’s an election. A government all about media soundbites, but the devil is in the details.
Yet again, the profession is left angry, but we shouldn’t be surprised.

Ever since the pandemic began we in the dental profession have been treated so poorly compared to other sectors of the NHS and as an afterthought.
If we dentists behaved so unprofessionally and did our jobs so abysmally we’d be hung out to dry. It’s an absolute disgrace.

We WANT to help our patients. We WANT to move towards this new normal. It’s very hard not to feel demoralised, demotivated and dejected when you have complete incompetence at the helm. Why aren’t they consulting and working with dental organisations? The SDA knew nothing of this.
Thanks again ScotGov, clearly completely ignored the outpouring of rage from your previous errors in judgement.
