British middle-class intellectual lefties only care about the sufferings of the masses when they are far away or v different from themselves. Palestinians, Native Americans, BLM etc etc. Why? Because it's easier to make people you've never met fit into your abstract theories
No group are ever the pure, idealised, noble bearers of the fight against injustice that the intellectual left wants them to be. They won't be monolithic, for a start. They probably aren't only the straightforward victims they're made out to be. They are real, messy humans
They probably have views you don't like. They will be stubbornly attached to their own cultural traditions and particularities. They won't be the convenient political puppets you want. But that's easy to ignore if they're 4000 miles away. Not so easy when they're on your doorstep
This is why the British Left spends a lot more time worrying about the Gaza Strip than it does Stoke. Because it knows full well that its native working class people stubbornly won't accept the views of their lefty 'betters' or contort themselves into the role ordained for them
Palestinians however will only ever be seen on TV or read about. It's easier to wish away or ignore inconvenient facts about them (like the fact that many of them are rampantly anti-semitic or homophobic). They can be treated as simple victims who won't talk back.
