THREAD: An analysis on Gabriel Martinelli. The boy is a brilliant talent and possesses so many qualities. Simply a breath of fresh air. In this thread, I will provide an in-depth analysis of the player. Likes and RTs so more Gooners can see this would mean a lot to me, enjoy! 😁
When it was announced that club managed to strike a deal for Martinelli, my first thoughts were that he would be integrated into the U23s rather than the first team. But a strong and impressive pre-season from him made me think that he could be a player who could provide us..
with an impact. He was brilliant in his first preseason game against the Colorado Rapids. Energy, work rate and desire are words that I would use to describe his performance. Gabi's top display was capped off with a well-taken goal. Since then, he has continued to impress.
INTELLIGENCE/DECISION MAKING: For someone who is only 19 years old, his intelligence and awareness of his surroundings is an aspect which standouts out to me. There are so many examples that show this. These small details are the ones that don't get talked about enough.
He understands space, knows when to drop in and when to go in behind. Here we have Gabi receiving the ball from deep, linking play together, followed by a run in behind. It doesn't stop there as he then shows his intelligence with a well-weighted pass to Willock.
Awareness, decision making and execution. All on show in this passage of play. Initially, Gabi shows brilliant pace to get in behind. He then holds onto the ball well, which allows his supporting teammates to join the attack. The Brazillian then whips in a quality ball.
FINISHING: Probably the most notable aspect in his game is the quality in his finishing. He managed to hit 10 goals across all competitions in just 13 starts (23 appearances) last season. What stands out to me is the variety of goals he has scored.
Every aspect of his game suggests to me that CF would be his best position. When the supply lines are there from out wide, he knows where to be and always takes up great goalscoring positions. His two goals against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup show this.
Other examples of why I feel that he is tailored to playing as a striker was his goals against West Ham and Sheffield United. He was tasked to play on the left in both games but the frequent movements he makes are inside runs into the box.
What I also love about Martinelli is that his first instinct is always to get a shot off as quickly as possible, if the opportunity is there. His second goal against Standard Liege shows this. This is simply a brilliant instinctive finish from our number 35.
Headed goals have also been a feature, hence why I say that he has shown to possess the ability to score all types of goals. The one against Standard Liege is a trademark near post CF finish whilst the one against Forest is simply superb.
Calmness/composure! Stamford Bridge is obviously the best example to show this. With Luiz receiving a red card early on, the game plan was always going to be to surrender possession, remain compact and be clinical. Gabi had a moment to change the game and he didn't disappoint.
OUT WIDE: 'I like to play open and I play quite centrally, but I prefer to start wide,'

This is a quote from Gabi. It's interesting because, in my opinion, he is best suited to playing through the middle because of the qualities that he possesses, which we have already...
discussed. But, he has shown us that he can also provide an impact on the game through the flanks. We see him in the three examples below where he utilises his pace well and delivers great service from out wide, demonstrating his ability to be a creator.
Good in tight spaces and can link with others. A strong partnership that was developing before his injury was between himself and Saka. The common theme in our play under MA is the overloads created from the left. And when these two played together, they caused havoc.
WORK RATE: South American mentality. Fight, desire and commitment. Martinelli possesses all of these traits. Very intelligent at pressing and his hunger to win the ball back, and regain possession for his team is an aspect that is so refreshing to see. A managers dream!
As you can see, there are so many qualities that the young Brazillian possesses. Good dribbler, a great burst of pace, intelligent movement, strong finishing, versatility, work rate, intensity and much more. Statistically, he impressed in his first year at the Emirates.
When you compare his numbers to another top talent in Mason greenwood, he fairs well (Only comparing minutes played in the Europa League as it gives a fairer representation).
What we have to realise is that Gabriel Martinelli is only 19 years of age, has come from the Brazillian 4th division, and has had to adapt to a new country that is of a completely different culture, with the football being a lot more quick and physical. Despite all these factors
nothing has seemed to off phased him. He didn't need any time any of transition and hit the ground running instantly. This is what standouts out to me. Just a young kid who is fearless and loves playing football. The Brazillian has become a fans favourite.
In terms of where Gabi will be utilised, he can clearly play anywhere across the front three. He possesses the qualities to play through the middle. Can drop deep, and link play together as well as being able to make devastating runs in behind. Out wide, he can provide us with an
impact by taking players on and creating width. But he is also at his best when he drifts infield and looks to take up goalscoring positions.

When I watch him play, I don't see any glaring weaknesses. The only aspect that I think he can improve on is his first
touch. It's not bad at all, but an aspect that he can certainly improve on. Overall, I think as fans we should be very excited about the fact that we have a player who has so much potential and ability. What we do have to remember is, despite his consistent levels of performance
Gabi is still learning his trade, therefore we shouldn't put to much pressure on his shoulders. I'm optimistic that he will come back even stronger when fit to play. And under MA, I expect to see him flourish and develop at a very good pace. Hope you enjoyed the read! 😁🔮
