A great deal of the coronavirus confusion among national and global health experts, with confident pronouncements constantly modified or retracted, is because they never want to be seen endorsing the one thing that really works: travel bans, aka quarantines.
Funny how so many of the "experts" either tacitly or explicitly accept China's claims to have controlled the pandemic with amazing speed and absurdly low infection rates, but they won't talk about the biggest difference in China's approach: stern quarantines and travel bans.
China did everything it could to spread the coronavirus OUT of the country - this was obvious and quite deliberate - but they brought iron walls crashing down around cities with coronavirus outbreaks. They were literally locking sick people inside their homes.
China invested a huge amount of effort into tricking and bullying other countries into refraining from imposing the same kind of travel bans China itself was using internally. The WHO was an invaluable propaganda tool for China to accomplish this goal.
Most of the false information China relayed through the WHO was designed to make other nations underestimate the danger of the coronavirus and refrain from banning Chinese travelers. China's propagandists and diplomats furiously denounced travel bans as xenophobic.
Many Western media organizations and political figures followed China's lead, prominently including Joe Biden. But all the while, China was ruthlessly restricting internal travel from infected cities. Later it imposed travel bans on foreign nations without hesitation or apology.
The world was bullied and tricked into embracing the bizarre new practice of locking down HEALTHY people, destroying national economies in the process, instead of monitoring sick people carefully and restricting their movement, as has traditionally been the case.
This was easy to do, because the Chinese Communists know the Western world is drunk on open-borders ideology. Decades have been spent programming people to think of borders as xenophobic nationalism and travel bans as racist outrages.
To this day, none of the people involved in helping China spread the coronavirus are willing to admit they were wrong about inverting the logic of quarantines, so they just keep doubling down on stuff that doesn't work, endlessly revising confident predictions that prove false.
And we're not only failing to control the coronavirus - the places that did "everything right," including full-blown mask mania, are experiencing new waves of infection - but we're making the entire population sicker and more vulnerable, to the coronavirus and everything else.
Forcing healthy people to stay indoors was one of the worst things we could have done, but that's what we did. We were stampeded into forgetting everything we ever knew about controlling highly infectious diseases, and we'll be paying the price for a generation to come. /end
