White supremacy will remain in power in America just as long as there are Christians willing to baptize it in biblical language and to defend it in the name of religious freedom, patriotism, and family values.

For a very, very long time, we’ve been deceived into “laundering” the ideas of white supremacy through the language of Scripture and “traditional values.”

This has radically corrupted and perverted our hearts and imaginations, our habits and practices, our reading of Scripture and our understanding of “the gospel.” What if CRT is being used by the Spirit to expose our failures, our complicity with evil?

What if CRT and other anti-racist ways of thinking and acting, including of course the BLM movement and organizations, are in fact prophetic? God hates racism and white supremacy, anti-semitism and anti-blackness because it is anti-Christ. So he will crush it one way or another.

This morning I’m thinking about words from Habakkuk’s prophecies, which show that God is against the bloody nations who enslave their enemies—“How long must this go on? Will not your creditors suddenly arise?”

White supremacy in America will die when Christians in America die through deep repentance, giving ourselves to the work of justice, making peace by making restitution—as some, thank God, have already been doing—or when Christianity in America dies because of its failed witness.

Jesus could hardly say it any plainer: “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.”

If we are not for others as God is for us, then God will be against us as we are against others.
