1/ Students will travel this weekend. Let's take Kitchener. Students at university in Kitchener travel to Ottawa and Toronto. Students FROM Kitchener travel back home from Ottawa and Toronto. Most will see friends they haven't seen since the summer and go out where bars
2/are still open. Kids are kids this is what they do.
Some WILL have been infected and do not know it yet. They will bring these infections back with them: today.
They will bring new infections into areas that already meet, or are close to, the criteria the government used when
3/enacting measures in Ottawa, Peel and Toronto. That decision was based on week old data and virus time is very different than human time. York, Hamilton, Halton, Kitchener and London will face the same measures. Prediction is difficult with the testing debacle, some areas may
4/ have already been there before throwing mass movement of students into the mix.
And now we have a great COVIDY stew simmering in many different regions capable of extensive transmission in areas with no restrictions, where life is carrying on as if no pandemic exists.
5/ Add in the "COVID-indifference" folks, including SOME WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER, who were more alarmed at 300 cases in May than 900 in October and the perfect storm is forming. COVID is sneaky, insidious and will exploit any opening it can and we are just adding
6/ so many opportunities for transmission.
Many, when questioned about Hallowe'en, have said by then trick or treating and what costume to wear, will be the furthest thing from people's minds and this has not changed.
We cannot rely on the government so every individual MUST
7/ do everything they can to protect themselves and their families for at LEAST a few more months.
There used to be a commercial that you were your own liquor control board: PLEASE be your own health unit now for the greater good.
