What the hell is Branding?

/*A THREAD*/
A lot of people seem to misunderstand the definition of branding

Hopefully, this thread will clarify that for you

I'll be sharing some golden nuggets I got from watching Marty Neumeier's interviews
"Your brand isn't what you say it is. It's what they say it is"
Marty Neumeier is the Director of CEO Branding for Liquid Agency

Writer and speaker on topics of business strategy, branding, design, and innovation

Worked with Apple, Netscape, HP, Adobe, and Google to build their brands
Golden Nugget #1 (My favorite one)

A brand is not a logo

A brand is not a service

A brand is not a product

A brand is the customer's gut feeling about all of that
Golden Nugget #2

What's happening on people's head is what your brand truly is

It's the reputation you created for one particular person
Golden Nugget #3 (This one is mind-blowing)

When you're creating a brand, you're, in fact creating multiple brands

A brand is what a customer perceives of it

If you reach 1k customers, then you've created 1k brands
Golden Nugget #4

Building a brand is like building a personality
Golden Nugget #5

You can't make your brand perfect nor control it
Golden Nugget #6

How to build a strong brand?

Close the brand gap between strategy and creativity
Golden Nugget #7

People will trust your brand when you meet and surpass their expectations
Golden Nugget #8

The main purpose of branding is to get more people to buy more stuff for more years at a higher price
Disclaimer: This is Marty's definition of Branding, some other Branding experts may have different definitions for it

I loved watching his interviews and hearing his ideas so I thought sharing that with you would be awesome

I'd love to hear your thoughts about it
