why i think ADHD commonly gets misdiagnosed as BPD/EUPD - a thread 1/
these are all my own opinions so if you disagree with anything that’s fine! feel free to share your own opinions below 2/
firstly, emotional dysregulation is a huge factor in those of us who have ADHD which is also a common symptom of BPD, therefore already leading to some confusion because not many people including professionals are aware of emotional dysregulation being apart of ADHD 3/
secondly, we are very sensitive to rejection or perceived rejection which i’ve heard is a very common thing people with BPD experience. If i feel rejection whether that’s relationships, friendships, my college work etc i will get extremely upset and angry. 4/
impulsivity is very common in people with ADHD. this can be things such as speaking out of turn, interrupting others to reckless driving, gambling etc. which this is also common in many people with BPD. 5/
we can be very prone to anger, this comes under emotional dysregulation. one thing can make me so angry it’s physically painful for me. 6/
I can feel chronically empty and extreme boredom which ive experienced intensely since a child. this is due to under stimulation, in these situations i normally turn to gambling or over-spending to help stimulate my brain. 7/
I haven’t included everything in this thread, but these things i stated i believe are why i was misdiagnosed with BPD before it been picked up to being ADHD. 8/
it also took me hours to complete this thread because no matter how much i wanted to do it my brain put it off how ironic! thanks ADHD haha! 9/9
