Hello! My name is Stacy and today is my @science_a_thon #DayOfScience!
I'm a geologist who has spent the last 4 years investigating how mountains form. I'm in a weird grey area just now, I'm not quite a Dr but I don't have another job, but somehow still have lots to do! (1/12)
(2/12) This morning started with our @OU_EEE Monday Morning writing club. When you're busy all the time it can be hard to give yourself the brain space to do stuff like write papers. So we get together twice a week to do just that! 2hrs of writing in a supportive environment 😁
(3/12) Today I'm trying to write a paper on the work I did for my MSc. and it's been a while since I looked at the data! Thankfully past-Stacy wrote some nice code in @Rstudio and quick as a flash I can make all my plots again. Now to get on with writing up the results!
(4/12) The fuel of many a scientist is coffee, and I'm no exception! I try not to use my coffee machine too much because I need to find a way of recycling the plastic capsules, but a treat at the start of the week is allowed, right?!
(5/12) I’m doing some work looking at the impacts of the OU-BBC co-production Blue Planet II, which I think means I get to rewatch the incredible show! And I loved the similarity between the boat seen in Ep2 and my new Lego Research Vessel, which handily sits on my windowsill!
(6/12) I really enjoy cooking, but the joy of having a leftover meal ready for my lunch is a true joy. I highly recommend this one-pot dish of Teriyaki Chicken Noodles with additional broccoli from @BegumNadiya. More great science fuel!

(7/12) Time for another online meeting! Mondays are when the @OU_EEE Dynamic Earth Research Group meet up for a chat. Often we're discussing papers, troubleshooting, talking science, but today was a chance to catch up and check in with everyone, because that's just as important.
(8/12) Something positive that has come out of #WFH is the increased access to online science lectures. People from across the globe can now give and listen to both live and recorded talks, such as this fabulous @GeolSoc Public Lecture on Science Communication by @iamhazelgibson.
(9/12) With lots of meetings, talks and science achieved today I decided to treat myself and finish my working day a little early. But where am I off to? You’ll have to see below! How am I getting there, as a non-driver in Milton Keynes? By bike of course!
(10/12) Exercise is so important, especially these days. And climbing/bouldering is very much like science; it’s about problem solving, you often fail, but stick with it and you’ll feel great when you get it right!

(11/12) Another hobby of mine is taking photos of Lego! I firmly believe that you can communicate any scientific concept using Lego. So this month I’ve been doing my own version of the #Inktober #InkySciPatterns challenge with Lego! See my #Bricktober #BrickySciPatterns thread!👇 https://twitter.com/shtacy_phillips/status/1312342516834992130
(12/12) Monday = Quiz day! 90 continuous minutes of great British quiz shows. And every once in a while, it pays to be a geologist 😎 (got it after 2)
That concludes my @science_a_thon #DayOfScience! Hope you enjoyed following my day! Do follow the hashtag the rest of the week!
