Has anyone ever considered that we’re not parents of celebrities? Of our favs? That maybe they are grown-ups, who can make their own decisions and don’t owe us anything? That they do or don’t do stuff for their own reasons and that it’s none of our damn business?
Oh and maybe, just maybe: they are human beings who have a lot going on and are just as affected by everything in the world as we are? Except the difference is, they are judged on everything they do or don’t do. Doesn’t matter what it is. By fans, by enemies, by people
who have nothing better to do than to police them. None of us enjoy having people tell us what to do. We hate feeling oppressed and try to fight it. Yet when a celebrity comes online and posts no matter what, everyone tries to get them to do or say something.
“Add your pronouns” “this outfit is shit” “tell me you love me” “wish me a happy birthday” “come sing for my dying cat” “unfollow this person” “don’t get involved in politics” “why aren’t you tweeting about what is happening?” “Who are you voting for” “why aren’t you speaking out
“your mask is ugly” “why aren’t you wearing a mask in this 1 second moment I wasn’t a part of” “stop promoting this” “how dare you vote for this person based on this 1 article I read somewhere” “is this true?” “Why are you dating them” “your partner is awful” “youre shit”
And so on. And that was already before this virus heightened emotions and gave people even more free time to spend harassing people online. Celebs come here wanting to be themselves too. A lot of them can’t work. They cant see people live.
And yet they are expected to play to our needs 24/7. God forbid they don’t do something they are bullied into doing. I can’t even imagine how exhausted they must be. I would start blocking people too, for my own sanity. And I’m a nobody.
Everyone is scared. Everyone is unsure. Why can’t we cut them some slack? If you find you can’t leave celebs alone over stuff you feel is super important and they don’t respond: maybe consider they are exhausted and want to come online to have fun.
To talk to friends. To promote their stuff. To celebrate good things that are happening. If you were bombarded with negativity every time you come online in this crazy 2020 world, you’d start blocking people too. Their world doesn’t revolve around you. They are human.
If you feel judged by these tweets: it may be a sign you should take a break from social media. Do some self reflection and figure out what you are so angry/upset about. Good chance it’s nothing to do with them and it’s about you. Go do something fun and back the fuck off.
Thank you. This was for all celebs but started with seeing all the crap about @MsAmberPRiley and @DarrenCriss happening on a daily base. Enough is enough.
