feeling introspective for no reason whatsoever, and i was just thinking about how i& #39;ve probably had more lab tests and CT scans than the average person... which would make me more qualified to write sick lit but i think it& #39;s for that reason that i don& #39;t write sick lit
first of all, i& #39;m going by this definition of sick lit:

basically literature exploiting serious illnesses for sheer Edginess or a false sense of depth in an otherwise stupid story
it always makes me feel like vomiting when i find out that the perpetrators of this sick lit bullshit are people who haven& #39;t gone through any part of the whole fucking carnival of being Seriously Ill™...
yes, it is okay to write about things you haven& #39;t personally experienced, because I sincerely hope the crime genre writers out there aren& #39;t going around murdering people
i don& #39;t know where i was going with this thread, i don& #39;t even feel like i& #39;m qualified to be offended in behalf of people living with chronic or terminal illnesses, but i am offended by how often shitty writers will use like, cancer as a crutch to talk about the meaning of life
i feel like i& #39;m never going to write a character with cancer because (1) i don& #39;t wanna think about that part of my life and (2) there are just so many ways it can be fucked up and it can easily offend people... i& #39;m not that good a writer so i& #39;m gonna steer clear of it
but at the same time, if the people who have experienced the supreme and utter shithole that is getting cancer keep on...yknow, NOT creating the fiction about it, that means all the trash writers who make sick lit will keep earning off of pain that we went through and they didn& #39;t
i think the bottom line of this thread is just:
