I decided to reread Naruto awhile back and I've came to realise how intertwined part 2 is with naruto and Sasuke's first clash in part 1 which made me appreciate it much more
So here's a thread on it
The first clash in valley of the end of was centred around naruto's hopes of convincing sasuke to come back to konoha.

Naruto had one goal, to CONVINCE Sasuke, that the power he desired in orochimaru could be found within village and his comrades
The only way to prove his point would be to beat Sasuke in the fight.

(Which could also rope in the sentence involving shinobi sharing ideals through fights rather than words)
he started out by reminding Sasuke of the comrades that had been sacrificed to get to there but, as the fight went on Naruto began to use much more possessive and assertive language.

Changing the context of the fight from persuasion to a rejection of Sasuke's free will
He'd stammer on about how he'd drag Sasuke back and even to go as far as to say he'd break his bones if needed, telling him he won't "hand him over to orochimaru"

In retort Sasuke would answer back, his response built around a lack of understanding
Sasuke throughout part 1 and Shippuden could not be persuaded unless those that opposed him truly tried to understand him
When kakashi and gaara tried to persuade him but they made the mistake of forcing the expectation of others onto him which made him disregard their intake entirely

Naruto had lacked experience of loss and revenge at that time to be on the same page.
What Sasuke needed was someone that had experienced a similar loss he felt, someone that felt the need for revenge and at the same time someone that wouldn't put the expectations of others onto him to persuade him off his path.
Which is why throughout Shippuden Naruto was put through the wringer with garaa's death and pain's assault on konoha being the icing on the cake, taking the life of both of his teachers and his village which made him feel the burning hatred of revenge and immense loss
Both Naruto and Sasuke had grew up alone, experienced the loss of those closest to them and have felt the hatred of revenge.

At that point in the series no one else could've convinced Sasuke otherwise
The only difference being that Naruto had still had a home to return to while sasuke had nothing left due to his self destructive path. Which boils down to basic narrative foils
All this boil to the surface in their final clash as two different sides of the same coin
(as a plus Sasuke was already put through the wringer ideologically he began to sway off his path because of their encounter at the kage summit and his own inability to kill Naruto and his inevitable loss cemented it to himself that the path he chose was not the right one )
