a thread on much needed analysis of jungkook's my time performance:
so the song starts with jungkook on the stage playing air guitar, one of the very common moves of a performer. the black stage depicts his very early days (probably before debut)
the lyrics "why am i alone in this time and space" play while there are multiple illuminations of himself behind him like a "kaleidoscope effect". there's no one but him and he's all alone in struggle to be seen
take into notice that all the spotlights used on him are kinda like holographics of clocks constantly indicating the time running by as he grows up
soon after the whole bg goes red, which emboldens him and makes him stand out. this probably marks his debut date because after this other dancers join him as well
focus how he has been dressed up in a sexy attire right from the start. this is to signify that he had to dress up like this as an idol for the attention of public eyes right from the beginning
the contrast of red and black among dresses worn both days is interesting because the point was that even with the dancers on his back, he still stands out as the idol. so while the others wore red, he was in black and vice versa on the next day
then comes the dance break which is very important part where he shifts from one stage alone to another stage with a lot more presence. and while he walks, there are dozens of cameras on him which are a part of the set to highlight all the eyes on him ever since he debuted
the clock as the spotlight on him is set on 09:01 at first which is his birthdate and after that it keeps on ticking faster than usual clocks as the choreography speeds up
the moves of the choreo since the beginning were mature and adult-like. the focus was not to sexualize him but to tell how he had to dress and act like a grown up on stage from a very young age because this is what the audience demands and it appeals them
as he reaches across to the other stage that has a lot more presence, he realizes he's not alone anymore. this is in sync with the lyrics where he goes from "i can't-" to "i will-" expressing that he became optimistic over time with the love and support from his brothers and army
a minor detail but the choreo changes here after he goes "i will-" and its a bit more child-like move compared to the rest of choreography showing that he is willing to make up for the time he lost
just near the end, he stands in the middle as the rest of the dancers around him stand in pairs.. no interpretation needed here
the performance ends as the clock ticks 06:13, bts debut date again. the date where it all started for him and despite all the journey he has been through, he stands firm on this date as a ground reminder of how it all began.
just want to clarify that these are my own opinions. ofc i can be wrong as well and anyone is allowed to disagree with it too. but my point still stands that the performance and jungkook himself is a lot more than just looks and aesthetics 💗
