The university consultation process on cuts to the Schools of Arts and Humanities begins today. There are things we can all do over the weeks and months to show how the arts and humanities are both central to the ethos of Roehampton and enrich society at large #SaveUoRAH 1/7
Staff and students: we need to spend this week directing as many questions as we can to our heads of depts and schools – ACROSS the university. We need to demand that the VC justifies the decision to fundamentally reshape our community. He cannot hide behind email #SaveUoRAH 2/7
If you know of colleagues and students not on Twitter, contact them now to spread the word. Set up your WhatsApp groups or other channels. Coordinate your questions. Join a union. We have strength in numbers: we are the university #SaveUoRAH 3/7
What kinds of questions should we ask? Why are the cuts being targeted solely at arts and humanities when these schools are home to world-leading research and teaching, and when recruitment has held up well this year, in spite of the pandemic? #SaveUoRAH 4/7
The arts and humanities are central to the ethos and history of Roehampton. What will the future university look like without these at its heart? Is this the kind of university we really want for staff, students, and Roehampton’s wider community? #SaveUoRAH 5/7
What will this mean for students? Will they have fewer modules to choose from? How will they be fully supported if their access to staff and student support is reduced? How are students being supported through this period of uncertainty? #SaveUoRAH 6/7
How will the cuts affect Roehampton’s commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace? When can we see the equality impact assessment? Will the cuts disproportionately affect women, BAME, and precariously employed staff? #SaveUoRAH 7/7
