My grandmother, a take-no-prisoners grand dame of the old-school, died last night, and to cheer myself up, here& #39;s a thread of some of her most awesome moments.
[I miss you so much, gran]
[I miss you so much, gran]
On girlfriends : "Until there is a ring on your finger, you are not committed! You should ALWAYS keep at least three girls on-the-go at once!"
On her marriage : "I warned him [other man] that if he looked at someone else it was over. I heard that he went on a date with someone else, so I married your grandfather!"
On etiquette : "You can always tell when someone& #39;s been raised to respect others! Breeding will out!"
On going out at night : [to me] "So, are you coming home later on? Or is it a case of & #39;If I get lucky, I won& #39;t be?& #39;
On my future wife : [snif] "Best of a bad lot, I suppose."
On my father marrying my mother : "He was lucky to get her! She had her pick of the eligible men."
On her protective instincts : "If anyone laid a finger on one of my grandsons, they& #39;re dead. No doubt whatsoever. Send me to jail for life, I don& #39;t care."
On me getting my ear pierced for a second time : "The first one was arguably elegant. Now you just look like a male tart."
On travelling for an hour-and-a-half on public transport to bring my lunch to school : "God gave me two feet and a brain, and I didn& #39;t have anything else on today."
On any friend / girlfriend she didn& #39;t like : "I& #39;ll have you know that I& #39;m always VERY POLITE to them...."
She was awesome, and she& #39;ll live forever, because we& #39;re all going to keep her spirit alive.
