Not to be That White Australian or anything but “black” in Australia refers to our First Nations population, not African-descended people https://twitter.com/luvmvria/status/1315294826590597121
Maybe *their not our? Idk I’m an Australian dual citizen but I live in the USA so I feel kinda weird saying “our” but also I don’t and it’s also a pretty important distinction to make since the same word means different things in both places?
The part about “black” meaning different things in different places is like the operative motive between this tweet of mine tbh.
At the very least, the first two pictures in this photoset are of indigenous Australian kids, so they’re not the Black that you think of when you talk about Black people in the USA. And that may very well be an assumption on my part but I feel like I have safe space to assume.
If anything I’m just pointing out the USA-centric view that a lot of people (rightfully!) have when international communities talk about Black people.
It’s all fucked up and racist either way so it rly doesn’t matter in the end and I’m just being pedantic and will probably delete this thread in a minute
