How badly is the United States doing in our battle against COVID compared to some of the other major developed countries of the world?

Let's take a look at the numbers, comparing the US against the other members of the G7.
Looking at the stats in http://OurWorldInData.com  and comparing the Covid Cases Per Million Population of the US versus that of our other highly developed allies and looking at it over time, one thing is immediately clear. All of those other countries have improved. We haven't.
If you look at that particular stat, Cases per Million Population, and compare our relative ranking compared to the rest of the world versus the same thing for our G7 partners, from March through October of this year, all of the other countries got further from the top (worst).
From March 10th through October 10th:

Canada went from 41st worst to 81st worst (improved).
France went from 15th worst to 36th worst (improved).
Germany went from 20th worst to 93th worst (improved).
Italy went from 3rd worst to 70th worst (improved).
Japan went from 28th worst to 153rd worst (improved).
The UK went from 23rd worst to 51st worst (improved).

The US, on the other hand, went from 39th worst in terms of known cases per million on 3/10 to 11th worst on 10/10. We're the only G7 country whose ranking got worse.
And, unlike our G7 peer countries, our rankings have just sort of hovered in the same place for most of that time period.

On 3/10, we ranked 39th worst
On 4/10, we ranked 21st worst
On 5/10, we ranked 11th worst
On 6/10, we ranked 11th worst
On 7/10, we ranked 12th worst
On 8/10, we ranked 8th worst
On 9/10, we ranked 10th worst
And on 10/10, we were back to 11th worst, where we also were in May and June.

We are not improving. The other highly developed democracies in the G7 all have been. We are the outliers.
Now in terms of COVID deaths, the story is also bad.

All of the other G7 countries with the exception of the US and the UK have fallen in terms of deaths per million population ranking between 3/10 and 10/10.
On 3/10, Canada had the 16th worst number of deaths per million from COVID. By 10/10 they were 34th worst (better).

France was 7th worst on 3/10. By 10/10, they were 17th worst.

Germany was 17th worst on 3/10. And improved to 64th worst by 10/10.
Italy was 2nd worst on 3/10. Now they're 12th worst.

Japan was 13th worst in terms of deaths per million on 3/10. Now they're 142th worst.

The UK has had a rough run and was 14th worst on 3/10. Now they're 11th worst in the world in terms of total deaths.
The United States, on 3/10, was 12th in the world in terms of COVID deaths per million here. After all we've been through, we're today 10th worst in the world. And we're by far lost a higher share of our population than any of the other G7 countries. And most wealthy countries.
