Recent shows are teaching audiences more Black History than some of us received in our entire academic lives.

God forbid you truly understand "you are not your ancestors".

EYE started seeking out my own history outside of academia in high school but I do not shame Black people who got to Black history late in life. Denying us of us* is entirely by design. Kudos to you if your history was supplemented at home--not everyone's experience.

*Motion picture has always had the power to change minds which is why they have excluded so many of us from telling our own stories. The original tweet excites me for content creators garnering their power but angers me re: our educational indoctrination to hate ourselves.
