I have been saying it for a while now but here we go - my #horror movie thread.

Note: I am a supernatural horror fan, main focus on Devil/Demons/Hell and Witches/Occult sub genres.

Some popular, some not. No order.
1/ Hereditary

Y’all already know that I wouldn’t start this thread any other way. A horror game-changer.

If you didn’t like this movie you won’t like anything else I recommend so stop now.

SG: Devil, cult.
2/ The Ritual

Great horror movie. Emotional depth mixed with ritualistic murder, I mean...what’s not to love.

SG: Witchcraft. Cult.
3/ Autopsy of Jane Doe

One word - SUSPENSE. Unique backdrop and just plain interesting.

SG: Witchcraft.
4/ As Above So Below

Shit going array in the Catacombs of France. Once again - interesting backdrop and good acting.

SG: Hell.
5/ Evil Dead (2013)

Probably the extent of any Gore sub-genre I would ever recommend. This face genuinely creeped me out and I loved it.

SG: Possession. Demon.
6/ Lights Out

Good acting and a couple of creepy scenes that I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall not *horrifying* but good.

SG: Spirit.
7/ Awoken

You throw this move into a horror movie and I probably am all in. Solid movie. I enjoy physical illness/emotional turmoil + horror (a trend that will show up again and again for me).

SG: Possession. Demon. Illness.
8/ The Wretched

Mimicry is one of my favorite creep factor add-ons and this movie aces it. Wendigo vibes. Great ending.

SG: Possession. Creature.
9/ Wounds

Well-done psychological horror. You don’t see many like it and for that- I love it.

SG: Madness.
10/ The Last Exorcism

Exorcism with enough of a spin, plus just creepy and linear enough for the average viewer. Not a fan of cult endings but it didn’t ruin the movie for me.

SG: Possession. Demon. Cult.
11/ The Babadook

One of my favorites that made me appreciate the art of horror. Grief and emotional turmoil, but add supernatural.

SG: Spirit.
12/ The Conjuring

A few on this list go without saying, this being one. It’s great, nothing else to say or debate.

SG: Possession. Demon.
13/ Last Shift

Borderline cheeseball but saves itself with a few stellar scenes. I enjoyed it.

SG: Demon. Spirit.
14/ The Taking of Deborah Logan

I normally do not gravitate to faux documentaries/POV but I enjoyed it for this film. The depth of exploring illness as horror evens out the predictable acting at some points.

SG: Occult. Ritual. Illness.
15/ The Exorcist

Let’s just end for now as strong as we started. When will this movie not be terrifying? I truly don’t know. After watching this 20+ times, I still don’t sleep good after. That face!

SG: Possession. Demon.
