JG's 2nd half interception - an explanation on what went wrong, and it's a lot more than just 'JG':
Tennessee is running a 'mesh-wheel' concept. JG's reads are outlined above screenshot. He is looking first at the RB on the wheel. If that isn't there, he is to go to the slot WR on the drag. If that's not there, and there's still time, he should go to the curl/dig.
He gets the snap and looks to his first read, the wheel. But Georgia has the perfect call on. They're bringing a trap pressure. UGA has two rushers coming free, and a corner sitting in the flat on the wheel. JG has to go to his second read.
Why is it a perfect call? Because the protection Tennessee is using has the line blocking the 4 down DL + the Will LB. If the Sam and/or Mike LB's blitz the QB will have to throw 'Hot'. Well, they both come, and DL #4 drops to the weak flat. So you've got 5 OL blocking 3 DL now.
He can't throw hot to the RB, so he goes to his 2nd read - Hyatt on the crosser. The issue there is the receiver depths are wrong. They're way too far apart for the top crosser to rub this LB off of the bottom one. The LB is able to plaster Hyatt and take away the 2nd read, too.
So here's the big mistake, throwing the ball. I think he's trying to put this out in front of Hyatt and hope he can make a play. But the contact as he throws causes it to sail on him. Probably should have just taken the sack and live to fight another day.
Here is the full play to put it all together. Watch JG's head movements to see him going from 1st to 2nd read.
