one thing that bugs me in certain extreme ends of the proshipper community is when folks go so far defending their Problematic Topic of the Day that they straight up deny the real problem associated with it exists

"akshuly, adult gay men Never prey on teenage boys, and that's why teen/adult relationships in fiction are fine!"*

wrong on both counts. gay men can be predators and denying that helps no one. and the reason you can write about it is because fiction =/= reality.

another example, not story-related, is the claim going around that "fujoshis aren't real"

this isn't just reductive, it's factual nonsense

'fujoshi' is literally just a Japanese term for women and girls who enjoy fiction about male-male pairings

a lot of Americans wrongly use it to disparage the people it describes for fetishizing gay & bi men. but you can fit the definition of 'fujoshi' without doing that.

the secondary aspect of this claim is that cis girls & women never fetishize gay & bi men. which is again, simply wrong. we're all human here. people do shit they shouldn't. ficcers aren't magically immune to that

honestly the real bugbear in this scenario isn't even the sensitive topics themselves

it's that antis have successfully controlled the discussion of what's 'moral' and 'immoral' in fiction to revolve around sensitive topics, rather than the actual messages & dynamics at play

*any* fiction can convey shitty ideas, if the writer is a shitty person who feels entitled to propagate them. some demographics of writers who trend shittier may be more inclined to choose certain topics, but that's nowhere near indicative!

to use a dramatic example, an accomplished pedophile can groom minors quite effectively through gen fic/art, and will cause a lot more harm than a kid making porn of other kids ever could

the irony of the entire anti movement is that they're creating an environment where abuse and hateful ideas can absolutely flourish as long as they look 'clean' and respectable. and not just the abuse they heap on others, but the same things they claim to be trying to erase
