Happy #NationalComingOutDay !

This year, I'd like to do something for the very first time: publicly come out as bisexual.

I've told very few people in my life. Many people who know me quite well will find out for the first time through this thread. (Hi mom!)

A short 🧵
I spent a long time debating whether or not to do this. On the one hand, I am in a straight relationship, and benefit from most systems of straight privilege. I haven't wanted to occupy LGBTQ+ where I felt like I didn't belong.

I've questioned my own identity for years, ...
...wondering if my sexuality is valid. Ultimately, I decided that I don't want to contribute to bisexual erasure, especially that of men. We do exist, my identity is valid, and it doesn't need to be validated with peer review (*cough* PNAS *cough*). I'm proud to be bi.
