A very long thread about why the 2019 version of The Lion King doesn't hold a candle to the original 1994 animated version:
The Lion King isn't my favourite Disney movie, but I think it's a very strong one, a landmark in the animation medium. I respect it as art despite it not being my go-to Disney film. Not to say it's because of flaws or anything like that. I just have a different opinion on it.
One thing I've noticed in highlights by @2gay2lift is that the animation in the 2019 'remake', while impressive despite the emotionless characters, is rather ugly and drained of colour, unlike the original. I'll show examples of the 2019 version in the next tweet of the thread.
Notice how everything looks much less vibrant and visually appealing than the animation in the original. By stripping the movie of this, you're already doing a disservice to the original, but this isn't the only problem I have with the 'remake' as a whole. There's so much more.
The wildebeest stampede sequence in the 1994 version took 3 years to animate from what I've read, and it shows. It's intense, breathtaking and cinematically gigantic in scale. It's a masterful scene with a tragic payoff in Mufasa's death and Simba running away out of grief.
The 2019 version shits on everything in that scene, from an inferior rendition of the iconic soundtrack to young Simba's animated butthole (yes that's really in there). Intensity and raw emotion are sucked out due to it being laughable, poorly acted and lethargic in comparison.
UPDATE COMING SOON. I'LL CONTINUE THIS THREAD TOMORROW. Sorry for slacking off on my criticisms on this awful insult to one of your favourite films @2gay2lift
