~IT’S SO SIMPLE, YOU DIDN’T ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING TO DESERVE CREDIT, my ass~, a thread:
So here we have a screencap of Colin from ep 1.01 of the right stuff (thank you @cptnswan_ouat for sending this to me since I can’t use my own right now):

That is JUST the screencap, AS IS, from the show. Nothing done to it. Just pulled directly from the episode. Notice how DARK it is?? Notice the widescreen bars across the top and the bottom??
Now here is MY gif I made from the show (which I’ll point out I made at like 5 AM after waking up to WATCH the show’s first two episode, and then get the episode which... I won’t go into the details of THAT):
Here’s the OG screenshot and a screenshot of my gif (from my phone just now) side by side so you can see them compared next to each other:
Anybody who’s NOT an edit maker wanna explain what I did to get such a DRASTIC difference in lightening and coloring?? How many PSD layers do you think went into that?? Which ones?!
See I know exactly what I did here to change it because I’ve been doing this for a long time now and I have actual education (self-taught) in this program to make something so dark and hard to see look... not like that.
And again, that wasn’t just me using a ‘brighten’ filter...

There are, as I said, LITERAL LAYERS, all that do different things, to achieve JUST that ~simple~ gif. That doesn’t factor in getting dialogue, like this one did:
When you have gifs with dialogue (which, yes, I do make often. I just did a whole 365 gifset series where I had to spend time getting dialogue correct), it’s MULTIPLE listens over and over to make sure you’re getting it right, sometimes even messaging if a fellow edit maker
To see if you heard correctly (like Colin’s ‘prayer’ from the Season 7 bloopers?? I had to listen over and over and STILL went to someone else to check I had heard it correctly).
That doesn’t factor in researching spelling (like on how to spell ‘MASTIF’, for example), or when..

There’s MULTIPLE characters talking in a gifset you’re making. THIS hilarious scene below? I had to figure out how to convey all the ‘Bill’s were coming from different characters because it doesn’t just TRANSLATE in text like it does on screen.
And this is just the BASICS (well, an overview of the basics, really). This isn’t a ~SIMPLE~ process. Or cheap, for that matter - the money I have spent on hard drives alone just to have space for content, both the source AND the gifs...I just this summer paid $75 for a new hard
Drive for fandom content ALONE. That’s all that’s on it. We’re not gonna talk about what I dropped just this Friday to make sure I could be able to gif TRS for the next several weeks.
Gif making is a real commitment of time and effort and there IS SKILL TO THIS. So DO NOT

Sit here and tell me I don’t deserve some credit for the work. If traditional artists and fic writers (of which I am BOTH as well) deserve credit for source material they do no own, so do edit/gif makers. PERIOD.
