Whitney Houston is the greatest singer who has ever lived. She could tell a story like no other and never failed to tell one with her singing. Other amazing vocalists, no matter how high they belt, how many notes they fit into a bar, how loud they screech, can never do it.
And it's funny when y'all name people, whether mainstream or backwood, as somehow being better because of whatever reason. They're not. None of them had the ability to transform a song the way Whitney did. Because that's what singing is about: the SONG.
There's something I've noticed. With other singers, people will focus on their vocal ability and/or aspects of the song. With Whitney, it's both her vocal ability AND the entire song. I challenge you to pay attention to what you focus to. There's a reason you focus on the song.
Whitney, unlike other vocalists, gave the song what it needed and not what she wanted. Another reason why she is in a class of her own.
And when her voice was greatly diminished, it didn't intrude on her storytelling abilities. She could still drive a song home. Most of the vocalists you go up for are only effective when they're in good form. Take them out of that and....well....
Whitney Houston is the greatest singer who ever lived. She just happened to also BE The Voice. Take that up with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
