Nonobvious YouTube SEO tips:

*Instead of trying to rank in search, optimize to rank as the suggested video of a popular video

*Comments are a top SEO factor: I pin a comment asking ppl to vote on my next video topic in the comments.

*Use less tags, too many confuses YT

Thread
Youtube SEO Title optimization

*Target keyword should be first

*Use the current year

*Use [ ] and ( )

Ex: instead of "How to write a strong personal statement for UCLA" use "Personal Statement: UCLA admitted student real example essay (2020 case study)"
YT Thumbnail Optimization

*Colors should stand out: do an incognito search for similar videos & pick colors diff from theirs

*Use a human face instead

*30 characters max of type

*Make thumbnails in Keynote & use thumbnail sidebar to view small & compare designs
Do keyword research:

*in youtube search bar for keyword ideas

*Use Tubebuddy - tells how good a keyword is to go for based on how competitive it is and search volume.

*Use vidIQ - similar to tubebudy & other nice stats, w/ both can also see competitors tags & copy
In Youtube Video:
*Say target keywords
*Ask them to comment on something specific
*First 15 secs are most important to grab attn be specific, "I will show you..."
*8-15 mins long
*Tell ppl why to subscribe
*Give ppl a reason to subscribe to your email list & mention lead magnet.
To rank as suggested video:
*Search for top videos similar to yours
*Use Tubebuddy/vidIQ to see their tags
*Copy their target keyword & use in video, title, description, tag
*copy & paste the title of the video as a tag
*Make your vid longer than theirs
*Make thumbnail stand out
Don't spend time optimizing until you've first made a handful of videos to get comfortable with making youtube videos.

It's not fun and might drain you from producing consistently, which is most important when you start out.
