Ok so as the self proclaimed #1 fan turned artist manager - here was my experience at @insomniacevents' Drive-In rave with Maceo Plex last night.

Worth mentioning this was my first drive-in, so only thing I have to compare it to is the vetting I've done for other drive-ins
Insomniac is the best at what they do with tons of experience and a much larger budget (even though everyone is definitely running on a smaller budget right now) than most of the other drive-ins that people have been trying to throw which is really the difference here.
First - this is the only drive in layout I've seen where cars aren't pulled into spots, and instead are all facing the same direction closing in your spot facing the exit. This made it much more organized for traffic and exiting safely, along with giving you the entire space
LOVED having a closed in spot for just me and my crew with space to set up chairs, blankets & whatever else and plenty of space to dance. Garbage + recycling on both sides of you and 6ft between parking spaces.
Food & Drink - QR code that opens a delivery website with your space info. Everyone can order individually so dont need to worry about a giant bill and splitting anything. Runners delivering you food, drinks, merch items. PRICES WERE SUPER REASONABLE and never had a long wait
Bathrooms & Cleanliness - Each row had their own port o potties. Never saw line and they were SUPER clean. The second I walked out, someone was coming to clean it. Hand sanitizer stocked and plenty sinks with soap
A lot of drive-ins are doing FM transmission to cut down on people leaving their spaces and because of sound ordinances. Which I understand, but as a fan, I definitely wouldn't be as happy with that. The sound last night was speakers throughout the lot and it was so niceđŸ„ș
Overall, Insomniac CLEARLY did their due diligence in hiring enough staff to make this run properly which is where a lot of drive-ins are struggling because with more staff and more barricades etc = more $$$. It's expensive but needs to be part of the budget in order to do these
Everyone is running on tighter budgets like I said - so obviously there is a lot more to be done in terms of production on these drive-in shows to make them a bit more immersive. But we are literally just learning how to do these, so I am definitely excited to see these grow!
The drive-in last night felt really safe, really clean, and really thought-out and organized which I appreciated that so much!! A lot of this comes down to the CROWD and fans ability to follow the rules and respect the situation so these can operate safely
Everyone around us was really respectful of the rules. Wearing masks outside of their cars. Didn't really see people wandering around (at least where we were). The crowd was great and I really appreciated that too!!
Overall, I loved having so much space for me and my crew of friends. I don't like strangers touching me and can have social anxiety, so this was a big win for me lol. It's like having a box seat!! Was a great experience with great potential
I feel for the smaller promoters who are trying to make these work right now. It really does take a lot of staff and organizing to make it function on the level Insomniac did, but hope there is a learning experience that everyone can focus on restructuring to make these work!!
