Black culture saturates your everyday life. Which is why I am sooooo impatient with pretty much everyone. The energy you have to use AAVE, enjoy our music, emulate our look, to have our skin/lips/HAIR/🍑 to keep what is OURS for yourself bc we really just are that amazing...
That’s the energy you need to have when we are lying face down in the street bleeding out. When you see my kinfolk on the street do you feel anything for them? Are you human? Do you know empathy or do you delight in apathy?
Why is it so easy to go about your day after you watch me die? You watch my name trend #1. Then #2. Then #7. Then not at all. Why is it so easy to walk past me as I beg for someone to feed me? You see me your entire life on the same street corner. Until you don’t.
Do you love me? Do I matter? Am I not worth a revolution? If only I had what you have, I would do it. I would do it for you too, even though you don’t even realize you need it. It could be you today, but it will be you tomorrow. If not now, then later. That’s how it all works.
We fight to live. Fight to eat. Fight to sleep. Fight to save ourselves from what? The country we’ve been born into that our elders fought before us, and our ancestors before them?
There would be no America without my people. No wealth. No power. No status. How dare you protest in response to the sentence I FUCKING MATTER❗️
This country holds no weight, has no substance, and is absolutely illegitimate in every form and fashion.
It does not keep us safe. It does not provide for us. It does not prioritize us. It was never meant to.
No policy can reform the United States.
Time is running out. I said I will not be next, and I meant it. You said black lives matter and I need to know if you meant it.
