Probably the single most underrated route in SEPTA Trolley Modernization that has huge network benefits is the 11 on Woodland Ave. And it should arguably get more investment long-term. 1/
As the single-most productive route SEPTA has, The 11's on-time percentage has nonetheless cratered from 80% in 2017 to 70%, as with all of the trolleys. An obscene rise in traffic should really be enough cause to fully fund Trolley Mod 2/
Schedule trip times range from 32 min off peak to 41 (and often worse) at peak. Cutting this down through Trolley Mod's stop consolidation/off board fares is only a start, as savings are compromised without TSP/exclusive lanes as well 3/
But viewed within the network, the 11 is much more -- Woodland Ave is the major spine for SW Phila, with the most direct and full-time service to Darby TC. An elevated extension, from Locust St, was a perennial plan, even surviving postwar as a trolley tunnel extension 4/
The service to Darby TC, the nexus for several major suburban corridors, is really the key. Just like 69th Street, it could mean a nice 2-seat ride from southern Delco to Center City, with added routes+frequency and an improved 11! (image from my proposed bus network crayon) 5/
The moral is that just like CBNR, Trolley Mod is a moment for SEPTA to really reconsider how much farther their operating dollars can go, after gaining efficiencies in capital improvements. Speeding up routes in the city really does benefits the suburbs' buses as well. 6/end
