One thing I always found intriguing about Re:Zero& #39;s cast, is how virtually every single character embodies an attribute of Subaru. You could very well conceptualize Re:Zero as Subaru& #39;s dream with every character depicting a projection of his subconsciousness.

1/9
Because in a way R:Z& #39;s story unfolds like an internal- dialogue or conflict between the subpersonalities within Subaru& #39;s psyche.

For instance; Subaru& #39;s conception of Emilia is a reflection of his ideal self. Emilia represents (to Subaru) everything he wants to be &

2/9
everything he loves about himself. Whereas Petelgeuse is a reflection of Subaru& #39;s worst self. Petelgeuse represents everything Subaru hates & therefore suppresses about himself. - So Subaru fighting off Petelgeuse & saving Emilia in an archetypical structure

3/9
is figurative of Subaru& #39;s internal struggle to overcome his inner vices & to nurture & achieve his desired self.

Or to present a different example; Pride is an attribute that defines Subaru & it& #39;s also an attribute reflected within Julius & Patrasche (the Earth Dragon).

4/9
A beast such as Patrasche, a breed known for its extraordinary pride, accurately embodies Subaru& #39;s rather simple & complacent pride, as they take an immediate liking in each other. Whereas Julius& #39;s pride is more majestic & dutiful, it& #39;s the well-earned pride of a knight -

5/9
something Subaru resents out of envy, as he& #39;s visibly hostile towards him.  - Julius & Patrasche symbolize the discrepancy between how Subaru wants to be seen as (Knight) & what he actually is (Beast).

Or another last example; Escapism is an idea deeply explored in R:Z -

6/9
it& #39;s represented in various ways in multiple characters to reflect upon Subaru. Beatrice embodies an overreliance on escapism resulting in complete avoidance, a state Subaru finds himself in in (e.g.) Episode 7. Whereas Rem manifests a total lack of escapism resulting in

7/9
a pathological sense of duty, a state Subaru finds himself in in (e.g.) Episode 8. - Beatrice reflects Subaru& #39;s tendencies to escape from unpleasant truths & responsibilities, while Rem reflects Subaru& #39;s ambitious sense of duty (as a hero).

& these are just a few examples.

8/9
Most characters are more or less an extension of Subaru& #39;s self. & this concept portrays the idea, that there& #39;s no difference between individual & world - a metaphysical & psychological truth highly relevant to Subaru& #39;s growth & the themes & messages that transpire from it.
