Please do this whenever you’re using ANY transportation app. I left my wallet in a @Lyft last October and what followed was a scary, threatening experience that went on for months. (1/8)

TW: assault, stalking https://twitter.com/lxyyxn/status/1315149996283498497
That night, the driver reported the missing wallet and I got an email from Lyft with his phone number. I called him and he said, “Okay, I’ll bring it to your apartment. That’s the location I dropped you off at, right?” Without thinking, I said yes. That was a huge mistake. (2/8)
At this point, he now had my 1) apartment address AND 2) my phone number. He dropped off the wallet and everything seemed fine. Then he started texting me about how we should hang out sometime and how he would give me free rides whenever I wanted them. (3/8)
He would text me daily and say things like, “Hey, I’m by your apartment. Do you want to hang out/do you need a ride?” I declined the offers each time, but I started feeling extremely threatened that he would hang out where I lived. I started taking different routes home. (4/8)
And I never went into my apartment alone. This lasted until March, when I received a text from his partner. She had looked through his phone and found out he had been cheating on her and thought I had been seeing him as well. She sent me graphic images of physical abuse (5/8)
that he had collected on his phone. I can’t even go into detail, but they still haunt me to this day. He had an entire album of intense physical trauma that he had inflicted upon people he had slept with in addition to pictures of knives that he owned. (6/8)
The only thing that saved me was moving out of my apartment and going back home due to the mandated shutdown. It’s scary to think of what could have happened if I didn’t have the opportunity to physically leave. It’s infuriating that this is our reality. (7/8)
Please be safe. Send a screenshot w/ the driver info to people you trust. Always say you’re going to a friend’s place. If you leave something in a car, use a friend’s phone to call the driver or block your number. Make sure they have no way of contacting you or tracing you. (8/8)
