Just some random thoughts:

Idk why when you say you're 華人 some people will immediately "link" you to China while in reality you're only a Chinese descendant. (1)
Also the fact that 華人 means Chinese/ethnic Chinese, is so biased. I wonder is there a better interpretation for it, besides "Chinese" (that won't make people think you came from China 😂) ???

(2)
Sometimes i try to get rid of this "Chinese" thingy. I mean yes i'm Chinese but no I didn't come from China (my ancestors did), I was raised and born in Indonesia so technically I'm an Indonesian 🤔 (3),
Then I want to be called as an Indonesian instead of "Chindo or Chinese-Indonesian or Tionghoa". Like, only INDONESIAN. But then people say: "yeahhh but ur race is still cHiNeSe" (4)
The best example is I see is Taiwanese, nobody said "台灣華人" right? 😂 only 台灣人, despite their 'ancestors' are also from China 👀

Sometimes i fall into the deadly cycle of identity crisis bcs of this 😂
add:
Chinese descendants in Indonesia usually self-identify as "teng lang" (唐人 in Hokkien dialect)
See even Google translate is biased af they literally translate "Chinese" to 中國人 🤣 I don't mind tho but I find this funny
Also I hate SE Asian who say their 祖國 or "Motherland" is China, like what? U were born in SG/M'sia/etc. but you call China ur motherland because "my ancestors cames from China". The logic there is just so wrong.
We call these people 祖國膠/中華膠 or when you're pissed off just call em 膠膠 or 膠民 🤣🤣🤣
