People keep saying this and it’s literally not true.

High contrast lighting? Sure. Deep shadows? Absolutely.

Looking back on all of the acclaimed VFX achievements of the past decade or so, absolutely none of them have that grey, muddy thing going on.

Even if they’re not bright and poppy, they’re still sharp and contrast-heavy.
I’m genuinely really confused as to how this take emerged cause it clearly originated with someone who lacks even a basic understand of how VFX actually work. Which, I guess, is the baseline on Twitter but it’s still pretty fucking maddening.
I love how simply upping the contrast on the original image helps the whole thing look just a bit less muddy.

Of course the backdrop is still too noisy because of the needlessly deep focus but at least there’s a *degree* of separation now.
