This is more for the privileged.
There are elections in the US in a few weeks, and there are elections everywhere all the time. The truth is that for most of us the decision continues to be between a bad option and a horrible option, and that just sucks.
(1)
Regardless of Trump or Biden, regardless of whatever options we have, the truth is that transforming our communities is going to take more than electing one of these people.
(2)
Sure the fights are slightly ≠ depending on who becomes president, but getting a candidate elected is not the work of moving us toward heaven on earth for all. Biden is not an answer, he’s just a less toxic poison.
(3)
And I recognize that matters, it gives us extra breathing room to keep up the fight, but electing a less toxic poison leaves us with poison still.

Inside of toxic Christianity we are taught that all we need is to become committed Christians and make everyone Christians and then we’d have a great world. Well we all know that’s just white supremacy masquerading as spirituality.
(5)
It’s a type of spiritual bypassing that keeps us from actually recognizing we have work to do to transform our immediate communities, regardless of faith adjacency. It’s no different than thinking we need to elect certain officials and then all will be well.
(6)
We just cannot outsource the work of transforming our communities.

To move toward heaven on earth the work starts within, we have to heal, and then it becomes work we do in our immediate communities. The more privilege we hold, the more this is our responsibility.
(7)
The marginalized are doing the work by surviving in a system that is actively trying to kill them.

What is heaven on earth? How can we imagine a society where everyone is truly well? What will it take for us to get there? What comforts will it cost each of us?
(8)
What kind of healing will it require? What will resisting oppression look like after we vote?

For those of us in the US, we rest on November 4th, but then what?
