a mini thread: PROFECTION YEAR

hi, i’m going to be explaining annual profections in astrology. this thread is meant for those who are new to astrology or just don’t know what it is. i’m going to post a cheat sheet so it’s easier for you to understand as i explain it.

cheat sheet for profection year:

an annual profection year is a year that highlights a certain house and chart placements/transits based on your age. for example, if you’re 18, you’ll be going through your 7H protection year. if you’re 23, you’ll be going through your 12H protection year.

annual profection years can explain why you go through certain things at a certain age or why one aspect of your life played a bigger and significant role at the age compared to the others. if you’re on twitter a lot, you probably have seen majority of people say-

23 was a very rough age for them and they were going through a lot at the age. this is because they were going their 12H profection year and the 12H focuses on secrets, sacrifice, karma, the inconclusive, and surrendering.

now, when figuring out your profection year, we need to use the traditional planetary rulers, the whole signs chart system, and tropical astrology. this means that we do not use pluto, uranus, and neptune here. in this case,

scorpio: mars
aquarius: saturn
pisces: jupiter

the easiest way to figure out what profection year your in is looking at your age. in the chart above, look for your age and look at what house that age is in — that is your current profection year.

now that you know your profection year, think about what sign rules that house in your natal chart. then look at what is the planetary ruler of that sign. for example, you’re 18 so you’re in the 7H profection year. in your natal chart-

scorpio rules the 7H. scorpio is ruled by mars so mars rules for 7H profection. now reflect on that sign and planet. the themes of that sign, house, and planet will come play an important role for you at that age. the houses that planet rules in your natal chart matter as well.

another important thing to consider is if you have any other planets (natal) in that profected house and sign. for example, you’re going through your 7H profection in scorpio and in your natal you have scorpio moon in the 7H, moon and mars are profected planets.

another example is if you’re have taurus mercury in the 8H in your natal and you’re going through your 8H profection year in taurus, both venus and mercury are profected planets in that profected house.

with annual profection years, certain transits will affect you heavily than others if it involves those profected planets and your natal planets. using the example with scorpio/mars, moon and mars transits will influence you heavily compared to other transits.

also, pay attention to what happens when planets go into the profected sign. using the example, scorpio is the profected year so when planets go into scorpio, it’ll influence you and highlight the themes of the sign and house.

let me give a mini story as an example:

julie is 18 meaning she’s going through her 7H profection year. in julie’s natal chart, scorpio rules her 7H meaning mars does as well since scorpio is ruled by mars. julie has a natal scorpio venus in the 7H, so as well as-

mars, venus is a profected planet also. at some point, mars went into aquarius and squared her venus in the 7H meaning aquarius mars transited her 11H for some time. during this period, julie was in a relationship but found out that her friends were mad at her for-

being in relationship with a guy they did not think was best for her. she also found out that one of her friends secretly talked to her boyfriend at some point when julie and him weren’t dating. why? 7H focuses on partners/relationships. 11H focuses on friends/friend groups.

that harsh aspect between aquarius mars in the 11H (issues with friends, dominance amongst friends) and scorpio venus in 7H (hidden enemies, secrecy in relationships) became a major event for her during that year.

now i’m not saying this will happen but this is just an example. annual profection are super important and give us insight for our future years.
