If you're anything like me, you read a lot. You probably retain less.

And if you're really like me, you probably retain almost nothing.

So I worked on a system to go from information to networked knowledge. It's my Information Operating System, and @roamresearch is the core. 🧵
When I get article or book highlights into Roam with @readwise, I put them through @tiagoforte's progressive summarization.

Going back through the highlights, I also take three other sets of notes:

Literature Notes 📖
Transient Notes 🌬
Ideas 💡
Literature Notes 📖 are my commentary and other thoughts that are tightly coupled to the source article.

I'll connect any related highlights to them via blockrefs.

Transient notes 🌬 are more conceptual and independent, some will bloom into evergreen notes 🌲
Ideas 💡 are for inspiration you get while going through your highlights. These can turn into research topics 🧠, article ideas 📓, or projects 📝.

As you collect evergreens, you can remix and reuse them for these and more. After all why have knowledge if you don't use it?
Evergreen notes 🌲 are richly backlinked to many topics and referenced from multiple sources. They are independent, but their power comes from their links to other topics and concepts. @andy_matuschak demonstrates their power handily in his working notes: https://notes.andymatuschak.com
