Shri Jagannath is worshiped at home in every Odia's home in odisha. Shri Jagannath is the first to be invited on the occasion of birthday, wedding vows. The poet also takes refuge in remembering Shri Jagannath when composing poetry.

According to the Puranas, Shri Jagannath is the eternal man, Purushottama. He is spread all over the world. He is the originator of the status quo and the laity. He has come to this world with various incarnations. He is considered to be the main deity.

ଉତ୍କଳର ଘରେ ଘରେ ଯେପରି ପୁରାଣ ସୁପରିଚିତ ଗ୍ରନ୍ଥ, ସେହିଭଳି ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି ଓଡ଼ିଆର ଆରାଧ୍ୟ ଦେବତା।ଫଳରେ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପୁ୍ରାଣ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କ ମହିମା ଡାଳରେ ଶତମୁଖ ହୋଇଉଠିଛି। ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଆଧ୍ୟାତ୍ମିକ ଚିନ୍ତା ଚେତନା ଧର୍ମ ଦର୍ଶନ, ଶିକ୍ଷା ସଂସ୍କୃତିରେ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ଗଭୀର ଭାବେ ସଂଶ୍ଳିଷ୍ଟ।

ଏଣୁ ଉତ୍କଳୀୟ ସଂସ୍କୃତି ହିଁ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ସଂସ୍କୃତି। ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଘରେ ଘରେ ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ପୂଜା ପାଆନ୍ତି। ଜନ୍ମଦିନ, ବିବାହ ବ୍ରତ ସବୁକିଛି ମହୋତ୍ସବରେ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରଥମେ ନିମନ୍ତ୍ରଣ କରାଯାଏ। କବି ମଧ୍ୟ କାବ୍ୟ ପୁରାଣ ରଚନା କଲାବେଳେ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କୁ ସର୍ବପ୍ରଥମେ ସ୍ମରଣ କରି ଶରଣାପନ୍ନ ହୁଏ।

ପୁରାଣମାନଙ୍କ ମତରେ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି ଅନାଦି ପୁରୁଷ, ପୁରୁଷୋତ୍ତମ। ସେ ସାରା ସଂସାରକୁ ବ୍ୟାପୀ ରହିଛନ୍ତି। ଉତ୍ପତ୍ତି ସ୍ଥିତି ଓ ଲୟର ସେହିଁ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି ସୂତ୍ରଧାର।ସେ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଅବତାର ନେଇ ଏସଂସାରକୁ ଆସିଛନ୍ତି।ସେହିଁ ମୁଖ୍ୟ ଦେବତା ରୂପେ ବିବେଚିତ।ସେଥିପାଇଁ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କ ମାହାତ୍ମ୍ୟ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପୁରାଣରେ ପରିପ୍ରକାଶ ଘଟିଛି।
