Mainstreamed/Bilingual Deafies in US and the rest, for the love of --, if I see...*deep sighs* I will make a video about this. I'm saddened seeing those Deafies being told to reflect on their own trauma bc they got told by some Deaf Elite(s) that they were...[LONG thread👇🏾]
...harming the Deaf Community ("instead of Deaf individuals") by taking their "internalised audism" out on them. I'm sorry but I'm going to cut their BS with some reality. That kind of mentality, *laughs* I'm going to get REAL HONEST with you, is tiring. I heard that argument...
so. many. times. by so. many. Deafies. Listen, speaking up, speaking against a minority group that's heavily discriminated by the world that refuses to accommodate our needs/accessibility on daily basis. OF COURSE it will have some sort of serious consequences. HOWEVER, that...
...means this community isn't progressive enough. Don't get mad at me, you know I'm telling the truth. The majority of us are mostly deprived of the resources we need. Therefore we didn't have the info/resources we need in order to progress. This creates certain bullshit...
...if you will, such as Deaf Elitism, Gatekeeping, D/d, Racial divisions, the list goes on. The problem is when people are so deep and completely immersed within the community, all they could see is the goods (as you should) but that also means they're blind to the bad parts...
I'm a mainstreamed multilingual Sikh woman and Deaf, just like others like me, we're forced to EXPERIENCE those bad parts...lol, oh the irony. Yes some of us may have our own demons...but those traditions you try to uphold are harming a whole bunch of Deaf people..truly...
And telling us that the fact we're speaking up, speaking out, highlighting a whole bunch of issues that's entrenched within the community are our fault because of our "traumas", (or according to that someone, "victimhood", "dominance" bs), are you kidding me? I do understand...
But there's a word for that kind of mentality "whistleblowers"...you know how they treats Whistleblowers, the "the snitches get stitches" kind of a thing. That kind of mentality is so strong that you can't even see. And you're effectively turning the table onto those Deafies...
...who spoke out, speak up. You got to ask yourself WHY are those Deaf people saying that they felt like this, felt unwelcome, got judged quite harshly all bc of their Deaf BG...and you're telling us we're the ones who got traumas? How about we stop with this constantly...
...shifting the blame and work together? Just accept each other? Support each other. Eradicate the Deaf Gatekeeping, D/d, and all of that BS. Instead of "preserving" the "traditions" y'all are so proud of... that is not progressive. Creating the divisions isn't progressive,
it's one step backwards, many steps backwards actually. If you want our community to prosper, our community to succeed, stop with all of this bullshit, stop hushing their voices, stop controlling the narrative. And instead, just listen, be empathetic and supportive, work together
Deaf people are so diverse with a VARIETY of Deaf Backgrounds. I'm getting real sick of seeing Mainstreamed Deafies coming online and "apologise" for "causing" trauma...but I don't see ANY single Deaf Elites putting their hands up and apologise for their Gatekeeping BS...
For their bullying, belittling, causing harm...Can you tell me what's wrong with that picture? That's something you need to see. Telling us that we should be reflective on our behaviours, to look into our internalised audism and meanwhile, y'all are...😂 The hypocrisy is real.
Before you come at me, talking about my privileges and whatnot. Imma going to say this. I WORKED HARD for over 20+ years to get those privileges, to be multilingual. I kept my head down and fought. Just like every single Black and Brown person, we work even harder...
I got my own demons, it comes with territory, having to deal with racism, audism, sexism, colourism, ableism and list goes on. That's what happens when we're in a world full of systematic oppression, systematic racism and white supremacy. But I don't take it out on others...
I don't have that luxury. At all. Hell, I don't have that choice. That's luxury we don't have and y'all need to understand that. The reason why I speak out, speak up, is bc unlike you, I want to see this community move forward TOGETHER. Instead of fighting each other...
All of this bullshits, the traditions, the preservation shit...y'all need to do better. All of this lack of accountability and shifting the blame shit, it's dangerous. And no, don't place that responsibility on us. Making it out that we're the ones who got traumas, internalised..
..audism, etc...ALL OF US have traumas in our way, let be honest. Can't we sit together and discuss the solutions? What all of us can do for each other? And if I hear one more person telling me that I'm harming Deaf community by constantly highlighting the real issues that...
...we all need to work together on and solve...how? I fuckin care enough to do so. I'm fed up seeing many Deafies struggles with their mental health that stemmed from those very traditions that you want to maintain. And you're telling me that I'm harming the Deaf Community? 😂
Sorry for an incredibly long thread but this was necessary, somebody needs to say this...bc seeing mainstreamed Deafies sitting front of the camera, apologising for something that isn't even their faults.. It's like, I'm apologising for experiencing discrimination 😅
And that's with a full understanding of "taking it out", that's a privilege from White/White Deaf Supremacy. But I did saw two White Deafies apologising, that didn't sit well with me. My heart goes out to every single one of them feeling like this. Seriously very sad about that.
Everyone, if you want to speak out, speak up, do it. Our feelings and experiences are valid. Just cut that Elite BS because we all must face and address those issues that are vigorously affecting people in our community. It's time to do better for all. Let move forward together.
